Sunshine and Fun: Summer Activities for Kids in Morzine, France
Hello, lovely families!
Summer in Morzine is a magical time for kids (and adults!). This charming Alpine village in France transforms into a playground of endless adventure and excitement once the snow melts. Whether your kiddos are thrill-seekers, nature lovers, or budding artists, Morzine has something for everyone. Here are some of my top picks for summer activities that will keep your children entertained, active, and smiling all season long.
1. Exploring the Great Outdoors: Hiking and Nature Trails
Morzine boasts a plethora of family-friendly hiking trails that are perfect for little explorers. One of our favorites is the easy trek to Lac de Montriond. The path is shaded but has a lot of ups and downs so is best suited to ages 10 and up (but never fear if your little ones are younger as there is the M bus which goes directly from Morzine centre and is buggy friendly). The reward at the end of your journey is a stunning emerald-green lake where you can have a picnic, paddle in the water, or even rent a canoe. The kids love spotting wildlife along the way, from chirping birds to the occasional marmot!
2. Splashing Around: Swimming Pools and Lakes
When the temperatures rise, there’s nothing better than a dip in cool water. Morzine’s outdoor swimming complex is a hit with its heated pools, water slides, and splash areas. If you prefer a more natural setting, the Lac des Ecoles in Les Gets (just a short drive away) is perfect. It has a supervised swimming area, an inflatable obstacle course, and even a little beach – great for building sandcastles!
3. Pedal Power: Biking Adventures
Morzine is famous for its mountain biking, but there are plenty of gentle trails for younger cyclists too. The Dereches Park offers flat, scenic routes alongside the river, ideal for a leisurely family bike ride. If your kids are a bit older and more adventurous, try the family-friendly bike parks with easy downhill trails – don’t worry, you can rent all the necessary gear in town!
4. Horseback Riding: Pony Treks
For a unique way to explore the mountains, how about a pony trek? The local stables offer guided rides suitable for all ages and experience levels. It's an enchanting experience for kids to trot along scenic trails and learn basic horsemanship. Plus, the ponies are just too cute to resist!
5. High Ropes and Ziplines: Indiana Park
If your kids are craving a bit of adrenaline, Indiana Park is the place to be. This treetop adventure park features zip lines, rope bridges, and climbing challenges that cater to various age groups. It's a fantastic way for children to build confidence and enjoy an exciting day out in nature.
6. Creative Fun: Arts and Crafts Workshops
For those rainy days or when you need a break from all the physical activities, Morzine offers wonderful arts and crafts workshops. The local tourist office often organizes sessions where kids can create everything from pottery to paintings. It’s a lovely way for them to get creative and make a unique souvenir to take home.
7. A Taste of Local Culture: Weekly Markets and Festivals
Don’t miss out on the local markets, where kids can taste delicious cheeses, fresh fruits, and traditional French pastries. It’s a great opportunity to introduce them to new foods and teach them about the local culture. During summer, Morzine also hosts various festivals with live music, street performances, and craft stalls – perfect for a fun family outing.
8. Animal Encounters: Petting Zoos and Farm Visits
Children adore animals, and Morzine has several places where they can meet and feed farm animals. The Ferme de Seraussaix is a charming petting zoo where kids can interact with goats, rabbits, and other friendly creatures. It's a delightful, hands-on experience that brings them closer to nature.
9. Scenic Picnics and Playgrounds
Sometimes, the simplest activities are the most memorable. Pack a picnic and head to one of the many picturesque spots around Morzine. The Parc des Dérêches is a favorite, with its expansive green spaces, playgrounds, and sports facilities. After lunch, the kids can run around and play to their hearts' content.
10. Evening Entertainment: Family-Friendly Events
As the day winds down, Morzine doesn’t slow down. There are often evening events like open-air movie nights, music concerts, and street performances. It’s a wonderful way to end a fun-filled day and create lasting memories with your little ones.
I hope these suggestions inspire you to make the most of your summer in Morzine. Whether you’re here for a week or the entire season, there’s always something exciting to do. Have a fantastic time, and enjoy every sunny moment with your kids in this beautiful Alpine paradise!
Happy adventuring!
